I don’t know what you think, but I’m glad to see 2021 go, Although time seems to be going at a record speed as no day is very different from the next. I feel so lucky and grateful to be able to do my artwork. It is entertaining, gives me purpose, and allows me to express how I feel in a completely engaging way.
So what do I want to do in the coming months of this new year? For one, I bought a kiln months ago. It’s been stored in my garage. It took 4 months to get the wheels needed to move it close to the electrical outlet. Next, I’m still waiting for the extension cord,
Soon I will be able to divert my attention to ceramic sculpture. One of my favorite contemporary sculptor is: Sergei Isupov. Below is an example of his work. I love the detail of the paintings on the figure – all are fired and permanent, So good! And the way he incorporates the image with the illustrations on the sculpture; LOVE it!
How could one resist these two– Oil paint on wooden panels, 12″ x 20″ Perhaps these will be the subject for my sculptures.
In the meantime, I’ve created these sculptural frames inserted with a painting for a show titled Lovers Eye at the Pence Gallery in Davis, CA in January.
Lovers Eye was practiced in the late 1700s to the early 1800s to give a lover or spouse a painting of their eye in ornate jewelry, like a broach. This is a 4″ x 6″ frame I customize and was inspired by this practice.
